My Story with SCF!
In August of 2011 I decided to get off the couch and start joining some fun outdoor events. My first choice was this amazing Camping Trip to Kernville, CA. A group of us met up there for a 3day/2night adventure that included BBQ, hiking, swimming in the river, and a white water rafting day trip on the last day (which I did not attend because I didn’t feel physically ready). The weekend started just fine. On our first morning we went on a hike. As crazy as it sounds, it was extremely difficult for me to complete this hike. By the time we got to the top my face was red, I was exhausted, had scratches all over my legs, and one of my friends had to provide me with a travel cooling pad. Once we returned to camp I was completely “useless” and I thought we were going to take a nap, but to my surprise everyone wanted to go swimming in the river. I forced myself to make it over there and help bring our items, but as far a swimming goes, I was too tired. All I could do was just sit on a chair under the shade for the rest of the evening. The final day of our camping trip was the breaking point for me. I woke up extremely tired and sore and could not even stand for more than 5 minutes. We packed all of our camping gear slowly, since we had all day. My teenage son kept asking me to play Frisbee with him and I tried without any success. Once again, I realized weak I felt. I ended up laying a blanket near the river and taking a long nap in the hopes I would get enough energy to drive us back home. To summarize this trip made me realize how bad it was for me to sit on the couch for so long. I felt weak, completely out of shape and tired all of the time. Until I found SFC! That same week, tired and all, after coming back from the embarrassing camping trip, I scheduled my first class with Sandy: Tuesday night Zumba fitness at The Studio Loft. As if I haven’t had enough embarrassing moments already, on my first class I realized how out of shape I was in the dancing department as well. A wobble here, a wobble there is all I saw on the mirror! But since I had reached my breaking point I decided to stay committed (one of Sandy’s awesome phrases!: “Commit to be Fit”). My starting weight was 141lbs.
A few months passed and I am now planning a weekend trip with friends to La Quinta, CA in October of 2011. I am feeling great already after doing Zumba fitness with Sandy for only about a month and a half.
Now I am going on another camping trip that will not only include hiking, but white water rafting as well and I feel confident enough to know I will enjoy myself much more this time around. Bring it on!
Thank you Sandy for being so awesome!
